Recently, increasing number of people has the intentions of immigrating or studying aboard. This tendency brings both beneficial effects and negative effects. On December 2011, I came to Victoria, BC Canada for educating. I found that British Columbia was quite different from my hometown, Hubei. I want to compare and contrast British Columbia to Hubei for helping people knows more about the life of living aboard and protecting them from culture shock. A comparison of environment, economic social factors in BC and Hubei reveals some similarities and some differences.
At the first place, Hubei is similar to BC in its climate. The hottest month and the coldest month in BC are July and January, which is the same as Hubei, so the climate is very suitable for people from Hubei. They can adjust the weather in BC for sure. Moreover, the climate of BC is very suitable for people to live, because it is not as hot as in Hubei in summer time. With regard to population, BC is smaller than Hubei. Although the land area of BC is much bigger than Hubei, there are only 4.5 million people in BC. In contrast, there are over 54 million people in Hubei province. BC will not be as crowed as Hubei, so it is more comfortable to live in BC than in Hubei.
Secondly, both BC and Hubei have the quite same legal system. For example, the constitutions of both provinces forbid people to deprive other people’s life. And the other common one is that drivers are not allowed to drive too slowly in both BC and Hubei. But BC and Hubei are dissimilar in that there is no capital punishment in BC. At now, death penalty still exists all over China, but in my opinion, if a person kills another he should be executed as compensation. Death penalty can be a way to maintain public security.
Last but not the least, BC, like Hubei, has a variety of entertainments. There are lots of place of interest in Hubei province such as Yellow Crane Tower, Three Gorges Dam, and Wudang Mountain. And there are also lots of things to do and to see in British Columbia, such as the whale watching, fishing, and visiting the museums. People who come from Hubei will not feel bored in BC. On the other hand, with regard of frequency of public transportation, the frequency is higher in Hubei than in BC. It is hard to get a bus in BC, especially in weekends, because there are time schedules of the buses. But in Hubei, we have way more buses than this, so unless you driving yourself, it is hard to travel in BC province.
I hope I help people who have the inclination to live aboard know more about British Columbia by the content I write above. For the Hubei people, I hope you learn the life will be different in BC than in Hubei, but the life is still colorful and joyful here.
