Speaking about Bale's audition tape, Nolan said: "We figured this out before the screen test. You could not give a normal performance, you could not give an ordinary performance. You had to project massive energy through this costume in order to not question the costume."
He added: ‘I think Christian’s voice was a big part of the impression made in the test. He had decided that Batman needed to have different voice to Bruce Wayne. That he needed to put on a voice. That supported the visual appearance of the character and explained why people won’t recognise him from his voice. It was pretty logically thought out."
Last month, it was reported that Christian Bale was offered a massive salary of around £40million to reprise the role of Batman in the forthcoming Man Of Steel sequel. The role was then controversially awarded to Ben Affleck.
