Bookmark this under super awkward. Diehard Phillip Phillips fan (otherwise known as a Philatic) Carly Meyers put together a re-write of the singer’s mega-hit “Home,” with words asking him to go to prom with her. As cute and semi-stalker-ish as it was, Phillips turned her down, appearing on Good Morning America Thursday (April 24) to break her heart.
“What’s up Carly, my friends at ‘Good Morning America’ sent me your incredible prom proposal” he said, via pre-taped video, “and it sounded so lovely, but sadly, I won’t be able to make it.”
Aww. But never fear, he offered an equally appealing alternative. “Instead, I’m going to give you and your friend some tickets to my show at the PNC Bank Arts Centre July 12. So, I can’t wait to see you and hear all about your prom!”
To backtrack: why did Meyers choose Phillips as the target of her love? “When I thought of my dream prom date, I just always thought of him,” she said, appearing on the show as part of its Epic Prom Week. “I love writing songs. I love his songs. So I thought I’d kind of put it together. [I] did it for fun, although secretly hoping he’d see it.”
