News is Bollywood’s longest running movie, Yash Raj Films Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is all set to go off theatres. For the uninitiated, the movie which released in October 1995 has been running for nearly 20 years at Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir single screen theatre. Having mentioned that, in December, chances are that the theatre authorities may call off its screenings from the box-office, permanently.

Shedding more light on the information, the Managing Director of Maratha Mandir, Manoj Desai says, “After the film ran for over 900 weeks at Maratha Mandir, we (both YRF and Desai) decided to continue screening it for 1000 weeks. Coming December 12, we will complete 1000 weeks. For now, I haven’t heard anything from the production house. I am expecting a call from them such that we can decide if we want to continue screening the film beyond 1000 weeks. If I don’t get any news from them then we will have to discontinue the screenings.”

For over the years the film has been getting tremendous response from tourists visiting from India and abroad. “To get a ticket on Sunday is very much difficult. Just last Sunday we had to put up the ‘housefull’ signage,” says Desai. We hope the film continues its long run at the theatre but if it’s otherwise then December 12, 2014 will be the last day of its screening at the single screen.
