My interest in Mechanical Engineering began at my young age when I accidentally broke a clock, and I found a sophisticated machine comprised of many gears. When I touched and moved the gears, I can see other parts of the machine operating as well. I was particularly intrigued by these mechanical connections, and my curiosity stemmed from a desire to figure out mechanisms behind these mysterious machines. As I grow older, I found our society was surrounded by these various kinds of machines, the creation of such magnificent objects intrigues me and finally leads me to the decision of pursuing my studies in mechanical engineering. Among the different areas of Automation and Control, I am especially obsessed with the computational dynamics, because almost all of machines existing in the world operating under the basis of sophisticated calculation. In short, the nature of all the mechanisms linked together to function is miraculous, and the mechanical principles underlying are worthy further exploring. In my Bachelor period, those science, technology courses truly helped me to learn to observe the nature in an objective, insightful way. Later, I participated in many academic contests and research projects. In CT image constructing project, firstly I studied the most basic functioning mechanism of the first generation CT system. Our team then found the shortcomings in the process of image forming, and we came up with many possible solutions. After the applying of canny edge detection method in the image constructing process, the accuracy of image forming of CT system was significantly improved compared to the application of original method. These experiences gave me confidence and made me more ambitious about the scientific pursuit. I love understanding how things work, and this passion is the never ending endeavour to question and explain the mechanisms of the natural world. Computational fluid dynamics and mathematical modeling provided us with powerful ways to study them. Thus, it is the subject that I would gladly spend the rest of my life studying. Specifically, Prof. Jifu Tan’s research about mathematical modeling and computational fluid dynamics attracted me a lot. Dynamics simulation is indisputably one of the most challenging disciplines in modern academia. However, as a matter of fact, it is the only subject in my life in which I have ever felt absolute confidence. Besides, Prof. ***’s research about****n and other fields related to ** also attracted me with its potential public health benefits behind such research developing. ***** University has the academic atmosphere of intellectual excellence that can help me to make deeper understanding of this discipline. I hope that I will be selected as a student as this would certainly help turn my aspirations of scientific pursuit into a reality and contribute towards the betterment of the human’s future. This is what I am going to do, and no one will convince me otherwise.
