I'm trying to run wic on Intel i9-7940X (14-count cores) on Windows 10. wic.exe instantly crashes upon launch before it even runs ex3d_hardwaretests, no matter what I do (compat mode, fiddling with DX10 setting, run as admin, launch from cmdline with affinity mask, etc).
Turning off hyperthreading (but leaving all 14 cores active), or lowering the available cores active down to 8 in BIOS fixed the crash issue. wic.exe now runs with HT off, or with lower # of physical cores enabled.
EDIT: This is fixed now, if you use Nukem's patch -- it allows wic.exe to launch on boxes with more than 16 cpu threads:
