April 28, 2009: After a long time in contemplation, Guillermo Coria announced today that he is retiring from professional tennis. Having defeated the demon of double faults in his last match, he saw finally that it was a lack of passion and will to compete that were the true issues in his tennis, and that when one does not feel that passion it is better to step to the side.
"I began to feel less and less like competing," he confided. "In this sport, you have to give 100 per cent. My passion just wasn't the same and it's impossible to do things well when it's like that. I've made the decision I will not play again."
He adds that looking back, he did accomplish more than he ever believed he would; a thing that happened to him for which he feels blessed.
